Once you become an Ivy member, you can start a charging session in three different ways. Choose the option that works best for you depending on the charger and your preferred payment method.
💡 Tip: Before starting a session, make sure your vehicle is properly parked and plugged into the charger.
Download the Ivy App
For the best experience, download the Ivy app:
Start a charging session using an RFID card.
If you have an Ivy RFID card, this is the fastest way to start charging.
- Plug your vehicle into the charging station
- Tap your RFID card on the charger’s RFID reader
- Wait for the charger screen or indicator light to confirm the session has started
Charging will begin automatically once the session is authorized.
Start a charging session by scanning a QR code.
You can start a charging session without the app by scanning the QR code located on the charger.
- Scan the QR code on the charger using your mobile device.
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
- Enter your credit card details or select Apple Pay.
- Select your charging port.
- Tap Start session.
This option requires an active data connection or Wi-Fi.
You can also start a session by opening a direct link to the charger. For example:

The Ivy mobile app gives you the most control and visibility over your charging sessions.
- Log in to the Ivy mobile app.
- Select the charger using the charger ID or map.
- Choose your charging port.
- Tap Start session.
Once the session starts, you can monitor charging progress directly in the app.
Ending your charging session & disconnecting.
When you're ready to disconnect your vehicle, follow these steps:
- Make sure your charging session has ended using the Ivy app, RFID card, or charger screen.
- Once the session has ended, wait a few moments (30 - 60 seconds, or more) for the vehicle and charger to complete the disconnect process before removing the connector.
Many EVs lock the charging connector in place while charging and may take a few seconds to release it after the session ends.
Having trouble disconnecting?
⚠️For any car emergencies, your manufacturer's Roadside Assistance, or other car emergency services would be best available to help immediately on site. Do not use force, physical tools, improvised procedures not documented by the manufacturer, or force the connector. You will be liable for damages by doing so.
If the charging connector won't release, try the following:
- Make sure your vehicle is unlocked.
- Lock and then unlock the vehicle using your key fob or mobile app.
- Press the charge port unlock button (if your vehicle is equipped with one).
- Some vehicles include a manual or emergency charge release mechanism. Refer to your vehicle owner's manual for instructions.
- Try removing the connector again using a firm, straight pull. Do not force the connector.
