Average charging time at home.
The Ivy Home Smart EV charger is a Level 2 (L2) charger. On average, a Level 2 charger can add approximately 30–50 km (20–30 miles) of range per hour, depending on your vehicle.
For most EV's, a full charge from low battery to 100% typically takes:
- 4–8 hours for smaller battery vehicles.
- 6–10 hours for larger battery vehicles.
Many drivers charge overnight, so their vehicle is fully charged and ready by morning.
What affects charging speed?
Several factors can impact how long it takes to fully charge your vehicle:
- Battery size: Larger batteries take longer to charge.
- Starting battery level: Charging from 20% to 80% is faster than charging from 0% to 100%.
- Vehicle onboard charger limit: Your vehicle may limit the maximum charging speed it can accept.
- Charger amperage setting: The Ivy Home charger may be configured to a specific amperage based on installation.
- Temperature: Extremely hot or cold weather can reduce charging efficiency.
Example charging scenarios.
Here are a few simplified examples:
- A vehicle with a 60 kWh battery charging at 7.2 kW may take approximately 8 hours to fully charge.
- A vehicle with a 75 kWh battery charging at 9.6 kW may take approximately 7–9 hours.
Actual charging time may vary depending on your vehicle model and settings.
How to estimate your charging time.
To estimate your charging time at home:
- Check your vehicle’s battery capacity (kWh).
- Confirm your Ivy Home charger’s configured power output (kW).
- Divide battery size by charging power to estimate total hours needed.
Example: A 64 kWh battery ÷ 7.2 kW charger ≈ 8.9 hours.
